Background history of the project

In 1988, during an organic trade exhibition in Geneva and on a stand presented by Adela Godoy, from Bolivia, Euro-Nat discovers the "Inca's rice", the quinoa seed. The product is first presented during Dietexpo , an organic trade exhibition held in Paris in October 1989. Commercial launch of the product is difficult, due to a lack of awareness.

A meeting with Jean-Marie Galliath, President of the Point d'Appui organisation, held in spring 1990, is the turning point for the seed. In 1991, a trip to Bolivia is organised to meet with the producers.

Euro-Nat begins to work with a coop of producers and the Jatariy is built soon after in the suburbs of Oruro to allow for a better traceability and a better quality of seeds. Sorting, desaponification, bagging, storage and dispatch are carried out at the plant.

Program Description

Our local actions in Bolivia improves the living conditions of the Indian population of the Altiplano region:

-As far as their work is concerned, through respect of their social rights, training in agronomy and the setting of a bottom price which guarantees minimum earnings to the producer.

-As far as their community is concerned, through the humanitarian organisation Point d'Appui, which redistributes a percentage of the purchases made by Euro-Nat. The funds are managed by the association and help assist the village communities: building of a drinkable water well, of schools equipped with educational material, free health care, gift of quinoa seeds.

Euro-Nat also bears the costs of transport from production site to the French factory. The company does not purchase the whole of the harvest and leaves an average of 20% of the harvest to the producer, for his personal consumption and that of his family.
